Ronaldo and Benzema injured in Real Madrid training

Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema will miss two friendlies for Real Madrid after picking up injuries during training.

Ronaldo hurt his back during training on Monday, while Benzema pulled a muscle in his right thigh.

Both were left out of the squad for the Audi Cup games to be played in Munich on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The tournament includes the hosts Bayern Munich, Milan and Tottenham.

Real play Spurs on Tuesday. They kick off their Spanish league campaign on 23 August at promoted Sporting Gijon.

The Real coach Rafael Benítez remains confident Benzema will still be at the Bernabéu this coming season despite speculation about his future.
“My answer is that I think Benzema is going to stay with us. I’m very happy with him. There’s no reason to think that he’s going to go,” Benítez said.
Asked about Real’s interest in the Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, Benítez said: “I’ve said in five previous press conferences that I don’t want to talk about players who are in other teams. We have three very good keepers. I can talk about them, not other goalkeepers.”
