Five-time Olympian, Olufunke Oshonaike secures semi-final place at 2015 ITTF Africa Senior Cup

Five-time Olympian, Olufunke Oshonaike, on Wednesday secured a place in the semi-finals of the women’s singles at the 2015 ITTF Africa Senior Cup holding in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The Germany-based veteran had earlier been walked over by Congo Brazzaville’s Han Xing, but she defeated Algeria’s Islem Laid 3-0 and beat Cameroon’s Beatrice Enjema with similar margin.

Oshonaike eventually got a bye into the semi-finals alongside Egypt’s Dina Meshref.

On Thursday, Oshonaike will battle the winner between Egypt’s Nadeen El-Dawlatly and Cameroon’s Sarah Hanffou, while Meshref will take on the winner between Laid and Lynda Loghraibi.

A confident Oshonaike said she was ready to take on any opponent as she was lucky to get a good draw at the group stage.
“I’m happy that I got a good draw and I hope I can be in my best form so that I can make it to the final. In the final, anything can happen and I look forward to what is going to happen,” she said.
Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna and Kazeem Makanjuola also made it to quarterfinals where they are expected to face Egypt’s El-Sayed Lashin and Algeria’s Idir Khourta for places in the semi-finals.
