Pepe Reina quits Bayern Munich for Napoli
The Spaniard joined the Bavarians last summer on a three-year deal having seen out his contract at Liverpool, but was restricted to just three appearances in all competitions in 2014-15.
As a result, the goalkeeper has been strongly linked with Napoli - with whom he spent a year on loan prior to linking up with Pep Guardiola's Bundesliga champion - and Bayern confirmed the deal for him to join the Serie A side was a reality.
"Pepe Reina has asked us to release him from his contract because he wants to sign for Napoli where he will have the chance to play as a goalkeeper on a regular basis," Bayern deputy chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen told the club's website on Tuesday.Minutes later, Napoli echoed that an agreement had been secured with Reina and welcomed the 32-year-old to the club after he completed a medical.
"Reina has fitted into our team in sporting - and above all human - terms so we more than happy to comply with his request. We wish Pepe and his family all the best for the future."
"Pepe Reina is a Napoli player," the club's website stated. "The goalkeeper had his medical on Tuesday morning accompanied by team doctor Dr. De Nicola and then signed with President De Laurentiis the contract in blue."Credit: Miles Chambers/Goal
