Juventus' Alvaro Morata reveals 'bittersweet feeling' after his winning goal knocked out former club Real Madrid

Alvaro Morata has revealed it is a ‘bittersweet feeling’ to reach the Champions League final after his winning goal for Juventus knocked out former club Real Madrid.

Morata, who was part of Madrid’s triumphant side in last year’s showpiece win over Atletico Madrid, cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty to fire Juventus through to their first final in 12 years.

The 22-year-old Madrid-born striker, sold to Juventus for £16million last summer, didn’t celebrate his decisive strike in the second half at the Bernabeu.

‘It was an important goal, but I’ve got a bittersweet feeling,’ said Morata, who was given a standing ovation by the home fans after he was substituted in the second half.

‘I want to say thanks to the Madrid fans, because they’ve always treated me well. If only I could have scored against another team, but life’s like that.'

Morata, who also scored in Juventus’ first-leg win over Real last week, added: ‘Here and in Turin I came on to the pitch thinking that it was a training session (with my old team-mates) and I had to stop and focus.

'My feelings will be different against Barcelona. They are a great team but we are as well.'

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri added: ‘Morata is becoming a very important player and he has grown physically.

‘He is a young lad who grew up at Madrid with many champions by his side.

‘He started from the bench at Juventus but has grown a lot and I think there is still room for improvement.’
