Arsene Wenger brushes off Raheem Sterling speculation

Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal are not in transfer mode amid reports that could make a move for Raheem Sterling.

It has been reported that Sterling wants to leave Liverpool this summer, although his agent has since move to dispel the rumours surrounding the 20-year-old’s future.

Arsenal and Manchester City are among the clubs that have been linked with a summer move for the England international.

Wenger was asked about the speculation at his press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League against Sunderland, but he insists he will not be turning his attention to transfers until after the FA Cup final on Saturday week.
“At the moment we are not in a transfer mode. We want to finish our season well,” Wenger told reporters.

“We have put massive effort in since the start of the season to come back into a potentially good position in the Premier League, and now we need to focus on finishing well. We have put so much effort in that it would be stupid not to finish the job well.

“The transfer period comes after the FA Cup final.”
When asked about a possible move for Sterling, Wenger added: “In the summer we will bid for people, (but) at the moment we are not in transfer mode at all.
“You absolutely want me to say something that I don’t want to say.

“I don’t like to lie. If I say that I will and I don’t do it, then I have lied.”
