PDP's Dave Umahi wins Ebonyi governorship election

Ebonyi state Deputy Governor and PDP governorship candidate, Engr Dave Umahi has won the April 11 governorship election in the state.

Announcing the result at the INEC’s headquarters in Abakaliki, the State Collation Officer and Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku declared that Umahi has met all the constitutional requirement and returned elected.

Umahi scored a total of 289, 867 votes to beat his closest rival, Nkwegu, who polled 124, 817. While the governorship candidate of APC, Senator Julius Ucha came third position with 27, 583.

The election, which was keenly contested by nine political parties in the thirteen council areas of the state was cleared by the PDP.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Chief Martin Elechi was defeated in his hometown in Ikwo council area, as he was unable to deliver his preferred LP government candidate, Edward Nkwegu.

There was wild jubilation across the stated the victory of PDP at the polls.
