Benitez dismisses Manchester City links

Rafael Benitez has dismissed reporters that he has spoken to Manchester City about a possible return to the Premier League.

Benitez’s contract at Napoli is due to expire in the summer and with the former Liverpool boss yet to sign an extension, it has been rumoured that he could return to England to take over from Manuel Pellegrini at City.

Pellegrini’s future is in doubt following City’s poor run that has seen them drop to fourth in the table, but Benitez insists he has had no contact with the Manchester club.

“I have not had contacts with City, unlike what I’ve read in England,” he told reporters.

When asked about his position at Napoli, the Spaniard added: “I have spoken to the president via messages but we have not been able to meet due to our busy playing schedule in order to evaluate the business plan.

“Now our focus is on matters on the pitch.”
