Arsene Wenger rules out sales of Arsenal best players

Arsene Wenger does not expect any major departures this summer amid reports linking Jack Wilshere with a move to Manchester City.

Recently Arsenal have seen their biggest players depart with Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy all moving away from the Emirates Stadium.

Wilshere is reported to be on City’s radar as they set about rebuilding their ageing squad, but Wenger has made it clear Arsenal no longer have to sell their best players and is confident the England midfielder will remain in London.
“We are not in a position any more where we have to sell our best players,” Wenger told his weekly press conference.

“We cannot make a case of any headline in any newspaper in a press conference from things that are not true.”
Wilshere returned to action for Arsenal’s under-21 side earlier this week and is hoping to make an impact in the club’s final seven games of the season.

Wenger is pleased with how he has progressed and hinted that he could feature against Burnley on Saturday.
“Everybody can have a big impact until the end of the season, Jack included,” Wenger added.

“Every player who doesn’t play is very frustrated when he cannot perform – (Abou) Diaby has been out for a year, (Theo) Walcott has been out for a year.

“Wilshere has played many games this year, he was out, but not for as long as Walcott or Diaby.”
