Sunderland suspend Adam Johnson after arrest on suspicion of sexual activity with 15-year-old girl

Sunderland have suspended Adam Johnson pending the outcome of a police investigation.

The club’s decision to suspend the midfielder comes following his arrest on suspicion of sexual activity with a 15-year-old.

The 27-year-old, who was arrested on Monday afternoon, was bailed on police bail ‘pending ongoing investigations’.

“Sunderland AFC has confirmed that Adam Johnson has been suspended from the club, pending the outcome of a police investigation. No further comment will be made at the present time,” a statement from the club read.

Johnson had been due to travel with the team for Tuesday’s Premier League fixture at Hull.
