Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin wants Champions League football

Morgan Schneiderlin will seek a summer transfer if Southampton fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Schneiderlin was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham last summer, but having lost Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, and Calum Chambers, Southampton made it clear they would not sanction any more departures.

Venting his frustration at the situation, Schneiderlin wrote on Twitter: “Six years of an amazing journey #saintsfc destroyed in one hour!”

Few expected Southampton to enjoy much success this season but they have thrived under Ronald Koeman and are still in the hunt for a top-four finish, although they are six points off a Champions League spot.

Schneiderlin is keen to play in Europe’s biggest cup competition and is prepared to leave Southampton to achieve his goal.
“In August, I wanted to take a move but the club had lost too many players to agree to sell me,” he is quoted as saying in French newspaper L’Equipe.

“Since then I have had discussions with the leaders and I want to play at the highest level: it is important at 25 years old to finally know the Champions League.

“Given that, late in the season, Southampton may qualify for the Champions League and I can stay, who knows. I have no desire to be in front of my TV on Tuesday and Wednesday.”
