Protest in Enugu over election result

Former Governor of Enugu state, Senator Chimaraoke Nnamani on Monday declared himself as the winner of the Enugu East Senatorial zone election held last Saturday in the state.

Nnamani who represented the zone between 2007 to 2011 led a protest match round Enugu metropolis with thousands of people from the six councils that make up the zone shortly after INEC declared the winner of the election.

The INEC had declared the PDP candidate and the incumbent, Senator Gilbert Nnaji as the winner of the election amidst complaints of massive electoral fraud levelled against the ruling party and the electoral commission.

However, the former governor who contested on the platform of People for Democratic Change (PDC) accused the INEC Resident Electoral Commission in the state, Prof Chukwuemeka Onukaogu of conniving with the PDP to manipulate the process.

This is coming even as the All Progressives Congress, (APC) rejected the results of both the presidential and national assembly elections conducted in the entire south-east zone as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The APC alleged that the polls were characterized by fraud, thuggery and assault on members of the party.
