House of Reps seeks quick relief for victims of recent Boko Haram attacks

The House of Representatives has appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to quickly make relief materials available to the victims of the recent Boko Haram attack in Kala-Balge area of Borno State.

The internally displaced persons fled their community and are now in Maiduguri, the state capital

According to Hon. Abdulrahman Terab (PDP Borno), the IDPs, hitherto living in villages, witnessed a fierce battle between the insurgents and the Nigerian Army.

In the ensuing melee, they panicked, fled and are now in dire need of assistance from the federal government.

He noted that the current military efforts, courage and determination to end the terrorist activities by the Boko Haram in the north eastern Nigeria is yielding a positive result.

He expressed concern that the unfortunate development has further exposed those communities where the people opted to cooperate with the military to severe danger from the insurgents as well as being caught between crossfire of the battle, which resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and property, including women and children.

He said while the military has aided the evacuation of over 15,000 of those that are alive to Maiduguri as IDPs, there is now another monumental humanitarian crisis brewing as a result of this incident.
