Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin suffers broken nose

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that midfielder Francis Coquelin suffered a broken nose during Sunday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton.

The 23-year-old clashed heads with team-mate Olivier Giroud midway through the second half and immediately started to bleed heavily, but was able to return to the pitch after being patched up by the Arsenal medical team.

However, the Frenchman then had to leave the pitch again after another blow to the nose in the 87th minute.
“Yes [he has broken his nose]. I don’t know [how long he will be out], I hope not. I don’t know whether he will need surgery or not,” Wenger told the club’s official website.

“They told me he was bleeding but that he could stay on. The second time he was hit again so after that I had to take him off. I had been told by the medical people that he could stay on.”
Goals from Olivier Giroud and substitute Tomas Rosicky helped the Gunners to victory over Roberto Martinez’s side at the Emirates, and Wenger was delighted by his side’s response to Wednesday night’s disappointing 3-1 Champions League defeat to Monaco.
