APGA alleges manipulation of election results in Abia

As the people of Abia state await the release of the results of the presidential and National Assembly elections held at the weekend, the state chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) on Sunday alleged plans to manipulate the outcome of the polls.

Specifically, the opposition party alleged that the results of the National Assembly polls from the various constituencies across the state were being doctored at the local government collation centres.

The allegation was made by the governorship candidate of the party, Dr Alex Otti, at a press conference in his campaign office at Umuahia.

He said that it has become evident that the results of the poll have been manipulated to subvert the will of the people.

"It was very clear that from the results coming out of the Senate and House of Representatives election that APGA was leading," he said, adding that "the results that came out are not consistent with the results we got from the polling units".

Otti alleged that transition council chairmen in a number of local governments engaged in ballot snatching, hiding of original result sheets with the purpose of rewriting the results.

But in a swift reaction. the state chairman of APGA, Senator Emma Nwaka faulted Dr Otti's claims, saying the APGA flag bearer was making spurious claims.

"Alex Otti's allegation that PDP is rewriting election result is laughable. I see his reaction as that of a drowning man," Nwaka said.

The PDP chairman stated that the reports he was getting from the field "clearly indicate that my party is winning (hence) we have no need to tamper with the results".
