United Nations backs Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram
The United Nations Secretary General, Mr Ban Ki Moon, had backed Nigerian’s fight against Boko Haram.
The UN Secretary General’s backing was disclosed to State House correspondents by the former ECOWAS Chairman and representatives of the UN Secretary General for Nigeria and West Africa, Mr Ibn Chambers, after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in the Presidential Villa.
He said that the UN Department of Peace Keeping would be providing a commanding control and unity of purpose among the different countries contributing troops towards the elimination of Boko Haram.
On Nigeria’s elections, Mr Chambers said that the United Nations is full of expectations that all would be well with Nigeria in the forthcoming general elections.
He further called on politicians to exercise restraint and keep the process clean.
He also spoke on humanitarian support for displaced persons following the Boko Haram terror attacks, promising that UN would provide humanitarian support to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to ameliorate the sufferings of displaced persons.
