De Gea opens contract talks with Manchester United

David de Gea has opened contract talks with Manchester United, his agent Jorge Mendes has confirmed.

De Gea has been in sensational form for the club this season and, as a consequence, has been linked with a move to European champions Real Madrid.

The Spain international is under contract until 2016 but manager Louis van Gaal is keen to tie him down to a new deal and the player’s agent has revealed that the two parties are currently in talks.
“I am negotiating with Manchester United about De Gea’s renewal,” Mendes told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “It is not true that De Gea has found a deal with Real Madrid. I’m negotiating with Manchester United his extension.

“We’ve signed nothing.

“Players decide what they want. There are talks and it seems in principle that he wants to continue there but it’s not signed yet.”
De Gea moved to United from Atletico Madrid for £17.8million in 2011 and has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
