Mesut Ozil closing in on Arsenal return

Mesut Ozil is confident he will be back playing for Arsenal in the near future.

Ozil was ruled out for ’10-12 weeks’ when he was found to have suffered a ‘partial rupture of the outer band of the left knee joint’ shortly after joining up with the German squad for the October international break.


Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had hoped the 25-year-old would be available for the busy Christmas and New Year period, but it was later revealed that he would not be available until early 2015.

In recent days the German international has been pictured at the Gunners’ training base and he has suggested he could be in contention for a return sooner than expected.

“I am working every day to get myself fit and I am on the right path now. It won’t be much too much longer before I am back on the pitch,” Ozil told Arsenal Player.

“I hope to be back training with the whole team again as soon as possible.

“After a time, you really miss playing football. You miss the ball and just want to play.

“When you watch the games and think that you could have been playing, and playing well, it makes you miss it, but that’s the way things are.”

Many believe a title challenge is beyond Arsenal this year, but the Gunners are just two points off fourth spot and Ozil is confident they can go on a winning run to improve their chances of ending the season close to the top of the table.

“When you watch the games, we have dominated a lot of them, but have conceded unnecessary goals. That can’t happen, because in the Premier League, every team is capable of beating one another,” he said.

“We have to get our points by playing the game our way and I am convinced that we will finish the season near the top of the table.”
