Emmanuel Adebayor returns to Tottenham training

Emmanuel Adebayor has returned to Tottenham but will not feature in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup quarter-final against Newcastle.

Earlier this month Adeyabor was granted a leave of absence in order to allow him to return to Africa for ‘personal reasons’.

The club did not specify how long the 30-year-old will be out of action, but he missed the Europa League tie against Besiktas as well as Sunday’s Premier League clash with Swansea.

He has since returned to the training ground but Wednesday’s game will come too soon for the player, who has not featured since the 2-1 loss at home to Stoke on November 9.
“He was back yesterday (Monday), but play tomorrow? No,” manager Mauricio Pochettino told his pre-match press conference.

“He began training after one week yesterday so it would be impossible for him to be ready tomorrow.”
Pochettino is anxious to reach the semi-finals of the league cup and will select a team capable of overcoming Newcastle.
“Tomorrow we play the best players to try to go to the semi-final,” he said.

“At Tottenham it is not about names, it’s about the squad. We have a strong squad. I have confidence in all players. For tomorrow, the players we will play is the best starting 11 to try to go to the semi-final.

“It’s important for the club and important for us and our supporters. It’s a big game and a very good opportunity to go to a semi-final. We need to create a good platform.

“Newcastle are a very good team. We need to create a nice and great atmosphere to go to the semi-final.”
