Wenger laments Arsenal's growing injury list

Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal’s injury list is a ‘problem’ after Mikel Arteta and Yaya Sanogo both limped off during the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

The Gunners booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League but the victory came at a price with Arteta and Sanogo joining the ever-increasing injury list.

Arteta suffered a calf problem in the second half of the win at the Emirates before Sanogo was forced off after picking up a hamstring injury.
“The injury situation is a problem because we have many games and we lost two players tonight. The first one is Mikel Arteta who has another calf problem and that looks quite serious. We also lost Yaya Sanogo to a hamstring problem,” Wenger told reporters after the match.
Theo Walcott, full-back Mathieu Debuchy and midfielder Mesut Ozil are currently sidelined, while Jack Wilshee will visit a specialist to determine the extent of an ankle problem.

Wilshere, who has a history of ankle problems, as replaced 55 minutes into Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday after complaining of discomfort and Wenger fears he could be out for some time.
“Wilshere sees a specialist tomorrow. We’ll know more tomorrow night,” he said.

When asked whether Wilshere will need an operation, Wenger replied: “I don’t know, the specialist will decide that.”
