Marouane Fellaini cleared by FA

Marouane Fellaini has been cleared of intentionally spitting at Sergio Aguero during the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon.

The incident in question occurred during the first half of the clash, after United’s Fellaini was fortunate to avoid conceding a penalty for chopping down City’s Aguero. The Belgian, angered at his opponent’s collapse to the ground, stood over and shouted at the Argentinean striker.

Saliva appeared to exit Fellaini’s mouth, but no action will be taken against him by Football Association’s disciplinary panel, who decided that the former Everton man did not intentionally spit in the direction of Aguero.

Via Twitter on Monday, Fellaini pleaded his innocence, having been defended by his manager, Louis van Gaal, following the game.

“The TV has shown that he is shouting and, sometimes when you shout, there’s a little bit of saliva (discharged) with it,” said the Dutchman.

Thanks to an Aguero goal, City won the clash 1-0, leaving Manuel Pellegrini’s side six points behind Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea and seven ahead of their local rivals.
