Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to see specialist for ankle injury

Jack Wilshere to see a specialist to determine the extent of his ankle injury.

Wilshere was replaced 55 minutes into Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday after complaining of discomfort and he is now set to be sidelined for ‘a while’.

The England international has a long history of ankle problems – missed the entire 2011-12 season as he battled to overcome a stress fracture – and manager Arsene Wenger admits he does not know how long he will be without the midfielder.
“I cannot give you any time schedule there because he will be out for a while and he has to see a specialist next week to see how long he will be out. We don’t know at the moment,” Wenger said at his press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

“He has a big ankle sprain and I don’t want to talk about it because I am not a specialist medically.

“The first news is they have told us that he will be out for the next few games. [To find out] for how long, we will need to see a specialist.”
Theo Walcott will also miss Wednesday’s game as he has yet to recover from the groin injury that prevented him from facing United, while goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is battling a hip problem.

Wenger, however, has confirmed that defender Laurent Koscielny is in the Arsenal squad following an Achilles injury.
“He’s in the squad for tomorrow. It’s very good news because he was out for a while now and we are short in numbers defensively. It’s good to have his quality back,” said Wenger.
