Pep Guardiola wants to manage Manchester United

Pep Guardiola would like the opportunity to manage Manchester United before the end of his career.

Guardiola won 14 trophies, including three La Liga titles and the Champions League twice, during his four-year spell as manager of Barcelona but left the Nou Camp in 2012.

During his year’s sabbatical, the 43-year-old was linked as a possible successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford but ended speculation about his future when he agreed to take over at Bayern Munich from the start of the 2013-14 season.

His three-year contract is due to end on 2016 and a move to United could be on the cards with the Spaniard keen to manage in England.

In the book Pep Confidential written by journalist Marti Perarnau, the Bayern coach admits he would like the opportunity to take charge of the Red Devils.

“I could see myself coaching here one day,” Perarnau wrote.

“Pep had said something very similar a few months before, at Manchester United. The day after beating Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, Guardiola and Estiarte travelled to Manchester to watch their next opponents in action.

“It was May 4, 2011, and the pair sat together in the stands of Old Trafford watching Sir Alex Ferguson’s team beat Schalke 4-1. Once again Pep had turned to his friend and said: ‘I like this atmosphere. I could see myself coaching here one day.’

Guardiola met Ferguson during the 2012-13 season but it is unclear whether the Scot informed him of his plans to retire at the end of the campaign.

However, he turned down the opportunity to move to England with Manchester City and Chelsea both failing in their attempt to land the coach.
