Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to miss Burnley clash with knee injury

Jack Wilshere will miss Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Burnley because of a knee injury.

The England international sat out last weekend’s win over Sunderland through suspension but he had been expected to return for the visit of Sean Dyche’s side to the Emirates.

However, he sustained a knee injury on training and will not be risked at the weekend.

“There is a slight problem with Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs has a test. He [Wilshere] got a kick on his knee, it is very, very short-term,” Wenger told his pre-match press conference.

Theo Walcott was thought to be closing in on a return to the Arsenal first-team following his cruciate knee ligament injury, but Wenger has revealed the winger is not ready.

“He is not completely ready. He’s been out for too long to start. He wants to play, but that’s a period where the patience is tested,” Wenger confirmed.

“The players wants to play, but then much later realise they weren’t ready. He knows he is not completely there yet.”
