Police arrest women negotiating to sell unborn baby

The Abia State Police Command, on Tuesday, paraded three female suspects, Blessing Oluchukwu, Promise Onyezu, and Nkechi Kalu, arrested at Osisioma Aba, while allegedly negotiating to sell the unborn child of one of them, Onyezu, said to be six months old pregnant.

According to police, one of the suspects, Kalu, had earlier collected an advance of N50,000 from a suspected buyer, one Blessing Oluchukwu.

The command also paraded one Joseph Edet Essien a native of Ifetai in Calabar, Cross River State, who allegedly stole a three-year-old child, Dorcas Emmanuel Usen.

Parading the suspect, Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna , said the suspected child thief was arrested with the victim at Aba while negotiating with a buyer now at large.

He said upon interrogation, the suspect confessed he stole the victim from Calabar where the mother had kept her in the custody of her siblings .

There was however, a mild drama when the suspect was asked to pose for a photograph with the victim but the innocent child never wanted him to come close to her, as she became hostile and burst into tears.
