Trigger-happy policeman, Adamu Baruwa sentenced to death by hanging

An Osun State High Court in Ilesa has sentenced a policeman, Adamu Baruwa, to death by hanging.

A statement in Osogbo on Wednesday by the Information Officer of the Osun State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Ope Bello, said Justice Abdulrasak Abdulkareem pronounced Baruwa, a police sergeant, guilty of one count of murder and ruled that he should be hanged by the neck until he was dead.

Bello explained that the prosecutor had told the court that the policeman killed one Mr. Kehinde Awoyedo with his gun on August 20, 2008.

“The state opened its case on May 11, 2012, while Baruwa pleaded not guilty to the crime.

“The prosecution team from the Osun State Ministry of Justice, led by Mr. Moses Faremi, appeared along with Bankole Awoyemi,” Bello added.

He said the team called five witnesses to prove its case against the policeman.

Post mortem report on the deceased was tendered before the court by Dr. Omoniyi Esan, a Consultant Pathologist at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, who gave evidence on the cause of Awoyedo’s death.

Abdulkareem, after examining the evidence, pronounced the policeman guilty and ruled that he must die by hanging.
