Arsene Wenger delighted with Arsenal's defensive display
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was delighted with his side’s defensive performance as they kept alive their title hopes with a 1-0 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Wenger accepted that his side were second best for most of the game, but he praised his team for their defensive display as they absorbed Spurs pressure throughout and showed a different side to their game to hang on for all three points.
Wenger accepted that his side were second best for most of the game, but he praised his team for their defensive display as they absorbed Spurs pressure throughout and showed a different side to their game to hang on for all three points.
“Tottenham played very well. We had an early lead and we juggling between protecting the lead and finishing the game off. We absorbed a lot of pressure from Tottenham. They gave very thing and we need a special resilience and good defensive performance,” said Wenger.
“It was an unbelievable start with Tomas Rosicky’s goal coming from nowhere. Tottenham played very well. I don’t deny that at all. They put the effort in and had the quality to go forward but I don’t feel they had a lot of clear-cut chances.
“It was a must-win game. We maintained the focus to not make the mistake that would cost us.”
