UEFA launch investigation into Manuel Pellegrini's comments after Manchester City's loss to Barcelona
UEFA has launched an investigation into comments made my Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini in the wake of his side’s 2-0 defeat to Barcelona.
Pellegrini hit out at the official for his decision to award a penalty to Barcelona and send off City defender Martin Demichelis in the 54th minute of the Champions League last 16 first leg at the Etihad Stadium.
The Chilean claimed referee Jonas Eriksson failed to show “impartiality to both teams” before going on to question the decision of UEFA to appoint the Swedish official.
A statement read: “UEFA has mandated a Disciplinary Inspector to commence investigation concerning press interviews given by Pellegrini.Pellegrini could face a touchline ban and a fine if UEFA decide to open proceedings against the manager.
“Based on the outcome of this investigation a decision will be made on whether disciplinary proceedings will be opened.”
