Shola Ameobi's Newcastle future in doubt

Shola Ameobi has revealed he may not be a Newcastle player at the start of next season.

Ameobi will be out of contract at the end of the current campaign and the club have yet to offer him a new deal.

The Nigeria international has spent his entire career at St James’s Park and, while he does not know what the future holds, he has vowed to do all he can to help the club for the remainder of the season.

“After the summer, my future is unclear,” he told the Shields Gazette.

“Basically, I’ll do what I’ve always done. Like I’ve always said, I’ve never taken it (playing for Newcastle) for granted. Every time I step on that pitch, I relish it.

“When it does finally end, it’ll be a sad moment, but at the moment my focus is trying to help this club.

“That’s what I’ve always tried to do, and that will never change.”
