Bamanga Tukur appointed Chairman of Nigerian Railway Corporation

The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has appointed the past National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur, as the Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

Mr Tukur had resigned his position as PDP National Chairman on January 16, with President Jonathan promising to reward him with another position.

“He is not guilty of any offence and I am going to give him an assignment that is tougher than PDP chairman,” President Jonathan said at the party’s NEC meeting after Turkur resigned.
Mr. Tukur’s appointment as the NRC’s chairman was announced in a statement by the President’s spokesman, Sam Nwaobasi.

A former member of the PDP that defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kawu Baraje, who held the position before, resigned after he declared intentions of joining the APC.
