Arsene Wenger rules out Julian Draxler deal

Julian Draxler will not become an Arsenal player before the transfer deadline, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The Gunners were hoping to sign the 20-year-old before Friday’s deadline, but talks between the two club have ended without an agreement.

It is believed Arsenal were willing to pay up to £30million for the player, but Schalke wanted the £37.2million release clause met.

However, when asked about the situation at Friday’s press conference, Wenger told reporters: “The Draxler situation has been created by the newspapers, not by me. He will stay at Schalke.”

Arsenal were involved in one of the biggest deals on transfer deadline day in September when they signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

They have yet to sign anyone this month, but Wenger remains confident that there will be a new arrival before the end of the day.
“I’m confident we will bring someone in today. It’s 80/20 per cent chance,” Wenger added.

“80 per cent of the activities happen on the last day. I would scrap the winter transfer window with ease.”
