20-year-old remanded for killing man with fist blows

A 20-year old man, Azeez Yekini, has been remanded in prison for allegedly killing one Jimoh Owolabi, 54, with fist blows.

Yekini was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court on one count of murder.

The Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Bayo Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant, after pummeling the deceased with blows, also pushed him into the gutter.

Owolabi was said to have died from the incident.

However, in a remand request, the IPO said Yekini did not confess to the crime and the police would be relying on fingerprint evidence which indicted him.

The murder charge read, “That you, Azeez Yekini, on November 13, 2013, around 8.20pm at RSA Bus stop, Ishawo Road, Owutu, Ikorodu Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Jimoh Owolabi, (aka Baba Bose) aged 54 years, by beating him with fist blows and pushed him into the gutter and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”

The magistrate, Mr. Tunbosun Abolarinwa, remanded the defendant in the Ikoyi Prison pending the Directorate of Public Prosecution’s advice.
