Monaco set to tempt Manchester United defender Patrice Evra with lucrative summer offer

Monaco are interested in bringing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra back to the club next summer.

Evra is in his eighth year at Old Trafford, but at the age of 32 doubts have been raised over his long-term future at the club.

Furthermore, United's chase for a new left-back, namely Everton's Leighton Baines, has raised more questions over Evra's future.

And Monaco boss Claudio Ranieri is keen to exploit the uncertainty by launching a move to re-sign the Frenchman.

The French club, who are currently third in the Ligue 1, know United are unlikely to sell Evra in January, even if they successfully sign a new first-choice left back in the forthcoming transfer window.

However, with Evra's contract due to expire at the end of the season, Monaco chiefs will offer the Frenchman a lucrative personal package to return to the Principality.

Evra spent four years with Monaco, making 140 league appearances for the club, before arriving at Old Trafford in January 2006.
