Obi of Onitsha berates APC and Chris Ngige for holding rally on Ofala day

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, yesterday, frowned at the decision of All Progressives Congress, APC, to hold its governorship flag off on the day he was rounding up his annual Ofala festival.

According to the monarch, it was very disrespectful for a political party, in spite of almost one year notice for the Ofala, to fix its rally the same day and out of annoyance, struck his symbol of tradition (ofor) three times on the ground and spoke in Igbo "onye mejoo ani, ochuba ya (he who goes contrary to tradition will have himself hunted) to express his feelings.

Igwe Achebe had earlier debunked the insinuation in some quarters that he resigned as the chairman of the state Traditional Rulers Council on account of differences with Governor Obi, insisting that having been in the position for over five years, it was time for others to serve in the same capacity.

He said that he enjoyed good and harmonious relationship with Governor Obi, who, he said, accorded him due respect punctuated by reciprocity, adding that he was behind him in the quest for Anambra North to produce the next governor in the spirit of equity and fairness.

In his speech, Obi expressed surprise that a true Igbo son, who is supposed to understand, would allow his party to fix a rally in Onitsha the same day the Obi of Onitsha was performing Ofala festival.

The monarch called on the people of the state to continue to respect traditional institution, adding that no politician would try such a thing in APC- controlled state.

Wow! Ngige ignorantly allowed Obi to score some political points. Why not fix another date for you campaign rather than disrespect your tradition?

But truth be told, clash of tradition and politics is inevitable as the traditional institutions are gradually loosing their esteemed respect by becoming a political tool or involving in politics.

  1. Ngige is clearly a round peg in a square hole, not the right man for Anambra. not twith his APC anyways. we dont want them

  2. I only blame Ngige for not advicing the yoruba party well. Will apc conduct a rally in lagos during eyo festival? He just shot himself in the foot. No remedy for him

  3. Ngige will make you all eat ur vomit! Come election time, he'll emerge governor of anambra state
