Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny offered new 5-year contract

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been offered a new five-year contract after his excellent start to the season.

Szczesny’s existing deal expires at the end of next season but Arsenal want to ensure there is no uncertainty regarding the Pole’s future as he approaches the final year of his contract.

The 23-year-old currently earns in the region of £50,000-per-week and will expect a decent pay rise.

The Gunners, who take on Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night, had looked to bring in a new keeper over the summer but the Szczesny's form has convinced manager Arsene Wenger to stick with his current No 1.

And the keeper has admitted that being dropped last season helped him re-focus.

'Looking back now it was a good lesson for me, one that I needed at the time,' he said.

'I definitely have got sharper since then, I have worked harder in training and it worked back then for me and I have carried on doing it.

'I am feeling like I am a bit more consistent at the moment. I am trying to do the same thing all over again and it seems to be getting the best out of me.

'We are winning and that is the most important thing. I am getting to the point in my career where all I care about is the team and if the team wins I am happy.

'I would have preferred a few more clean sheets, but I'm just delighted with the team's form and how we have been playing and getting the results.

  1. Good. He deserved it. Szces and the defend need to work more on getting clean sheets. Go Gunners
