Transfer Deadline Day: Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano set to join Arsenal; ...passes medical

Emiliano Viviano has passed a medical at Arsenal and agreed terms on a season-long loan from Palermo.
 
The 27-year-old will join on a season-long loan, which gives Arsenal the option to buy him at the end of the campaign.

Viviano was on loan at Fiorentina last term but the Viola declined to sign the player on a permanent deal, leaving him free to move to Arsenal.

The move brings an end to Arsene Wenger's search to add competition for incumbent number one Wojciech Szczesny, although it is understood that Viviano will start as a back-up to the Pole.

The Gunners were linked with a host of goalkeeping targets over the past few months including QPR's Julio Cesar, Valencia's Vicente Guaita, Real Madrid's Iker Casillas and Espanyol's Kiko Casilla.
