Taraba Crisis: 8 lawmakers insist ailing Gov. Suntai resumes governorship duties

Some members of the Taraba State Assembly have dissociated themselves from position of the PDP reconciliation committee that visited the state on Tuesday, putting an end to the supposed resolution from the meeting held yesterday in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.

In a press conference in Jalingo today, eight legislatures outrightly condemned the Senator Hope Uzodinma-led committee, describing their resolve as hurriedly contrived solution to the constitutional crisis in the state which has left the state in more confusion position than it has been in recent times.

Spokesman of the aggrieved legislatures and Majority Leader of Taraba House of Assembly, Joseph Albasu Kunini, stated that there should be strict adherence to the provisions of the constitution of the country, rather than cooking up solutions that will aggravate the situation.

The legislatures argued that since governor Danbaba Suntai has transmitted the letter of resumption to the State House of Assembly, saying he is back to resume, there should not be any provision of acting governor, rather a return to status quo, that is, the deputy governor back to its usual capacity, hinting that there should not be acting governor since the substantive and elected governor is around.

They appealed to the president to ensure that matter be settled according to the constitution.
