President Goodluck Jonathan sacks 9 ministers

President Goodluck Jonathan has reshuffled his cabinet, dropping nine ministers amid serious divisions in the governing party PDP.

Two weeks ago, seven of the country's powerful state governors and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar formed a splinter-group in the PDP.

The ministers affected are Ruqayat Rufai (Education); Zainab Kuchi (Power, [state]); Buka Tijani (Agriculture [state]), Shamsudeen Usman (National Planning; Ita Okon (Science and Technology); Olugbenga Ashiru (Foreign Affairs); Ama Pepple (Lands) and Hadiza Mailafia (Environment).

Sacked Education Minister Ruqayyah Ahmed Rufai was nominated for her position by one of the rebel governors.

No official reason has been given for the reshuffle, while a presidential spokesman said there would be no rush to replace the sacked officials.

PDP crisis or not, this reshuffle is an over-due move in my opinion, many of the incompetent ministers failed in their duties and stewardship to Nigerians.

  1. GEJ wants to appoint new ministers with strong political ties in their states rather than competent ministers to steer the affairs of the state that is a state of comatose, with all the trappings of a failed state? Do Nigeria and Nigerians deserve such an accidental leadership whose sole purpose at the helm of the affairs of 170 million people is simply to seek means and ways to perpetuate himself in power and not attending to the myriads of problems facing the people of this country? GEJ should understand that, he and his party have left the people as GEJ has no strong ties with the people anymore. We are praying fervently for change and for God to uproot bad leaders in 2015.
