Manchester City new signing Martin Demichelis ruled out for six weeks with knee injury

Manchester City have confirmed that new signing Martin Demichelis will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Demichelis signed for City from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day but he will have to wait to make his debut after sustaining a knee injury in training.

News of the injury first came to light on Thursday evening, but City waited until Friday morning before confirming the news.

“A knee injury sustained in training is set to keep new arrival Martin Demichelis out for around six weeks,” a statement on City’s official website read.

“The club doctor confirmed a scan last night revealed ligament damage to the defender’s right knee, but that surgery is not required.”

The news of Demichelis’ absence is a blow to manager Manuel Pellegrini as fellow defenders Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards are both sidelined through injury.
