40-year-old man fatally shot his friend over missing dog

An unnamed dog owner has shot dead his 40-year-old friend, Sege-Daniel Olotu, for daring to crack jokes while he was searching for his missing dog.

The incident happened in Okigbene-Opuama community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State .

The dog owner, who was identified as a former militant leader was said to be armed with an A.K 47 riffle during the frantic search for his missing dog.

A source, who preferred to be anonymous, said he shot Olotu at a drinking spot

He explained that while the dog owner was desperately looking for his missing dog, his friend, allegedly cracked jokes about the incident and invited him to join them to drink at the bar.

The source said the invitation angered the man and he shot Olotu. After the shooting, he fled the area, while attempts to apprehend him failed because he was armed with the AK47 gun.

He was said to have later escaped in a speed boat.

It was learnt that the accused ex-militant leader had earlier complained to his kinsmen about his missing dog and that he was leaving for Opuama to search for it.

It was further learnt that the killing, however, triggered pandemonium in the bar with customers and the bar owner scampering for safety.

The Bayelsa State Police Command’s spokesman, Mr.Alex Akhigbe, said the incident had been reported.

He added that the police had commenced an investigation into the matter to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
