Jose Mourinho prepares third bid for Wayne Rooney

Jose Mourinho is planning to test Manchester United’s resolve with a third bid for striker Wayne Rooney.

Chelsea have already had two bids for the striker rejected, but Mourinho remains interested in bringing Rooney to Stamford Bridge before the September 2 deadline.

United are adamant that Rooney is not for sale but that is unlikely to deter Mourinho, who sees no reason why Chelsea should not make a move for the player in the same way that Barcelona attempted to sign Blues defender David Luiz.

“You try, because nobody forbids you to try,” Mourinho told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Aston Villa.

“When you think that you’d like to have one player and the market is open and the official bids are not forbidden, official bids are always accepted in an ethical way.

“Of course, the player’s owners they can do exactly what we did in relation to David Luiz and Barcelona.”
