West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie in talks with Crystal Palace

Peter Odemwingie was in talks with Premier League new boys Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

The West Bromwich forward, who gained notoriety when he drove to Loftus Road on transfer deadline day in January to try to force a move to QPR, has been told he can leave the Hawthorns.

Odemwingie, 31, will have to take a wage cut to join the Eagles, but they are desperate to sign him.

The Baggies striker was forced to apologise for his behaviour in January, but his relationship with manager Steve Clarke remains unstable.

Palace want to take advantage of his situation and are attempting to persuade him that his future is at Selhurst Park.

Eagles chief Ian Holloway failed in a previous attempt to land him on loan in January when the club wanted a lift in the promotion run in.

But they are back in for the Nigeria striker and are trying to convince him to join their pre-season preparations in Portugal this week.
