Wayne Rooney will not be offered a new contract - Manchester United chief
Manchester United have confirmed that they are not currently planning to offer Wayne Rooney a new contract.
The England striker has been the subject of much speculation since retiring manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed the forward asked to leave the club towards the end of last season, his second transfer request in three years.
Rooney’s camp have denied this claiming the former Everton man was simply seeking assurances about his future role in the side.
The 27-year-old has just two years left on his current deal but United, despite insisting he is not for sale, are not currently planning on offering him an extension.
“No contract renewals are being discussed,” chief executive Ed Woodward said. “I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary.
“Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not.”

Contract or not, I hope he'll stay. A wonderful player, on his day can destroy any team.
