Jonjo Shelvey completes £6m switch from Liverpool to Swansea

Swansea have completed a £6million deal to sign midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Liverpool.

Shelvey only made 17 league starts for Liverpool since moving from Charlton Athletic in May 2010 and with the 21-year-old no longer part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the club, the Reds looked to cash in on the player.

Swansea expressed an interest in bringing him to the Liberty Stadium and after a agreeing a fee with Liverpool, they wrapped up the deal on Wednesday afternoon.

“Liverpool Football Club have confirmed Jonjo Shelvey has completed a transfer to Swansea City,” said a Reds statement.

“Everybody at Liverpool FC would like to wish Jonjo all the best for the future.”

Writing on Twitter, Shelvey added: “[I] will miss the city very much. And the club! Owe a lot to everyone there! Thank you. Time to start a new chapter in life in Wales. Thank you.”
