Everton rejects Manchester United offer for Leighton Baines

Manchester United have tabled a £12million bid for defender Leighton Baines, but Everton have made it clear the player is not for sale.

Baines’ has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since David Moyes was confirmed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor and the Premier League champions finally made their move for the 28-year-old with a £12million bid.

The bid was firmly rejected by Everton but Moyes is almost certain to return with an improved offer, which he hopes will tempt the Toffees to sell the England international.

Baines has been Everton’s most consistent performer over the last couple of years and his impressive form saw him named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year last season.

Moyes’ successor at Goodison Park, Roberto Martinez is eager for Baines to sign a new contract but the left-back’s loyalty will be tested with Champions League football on offer at Old Trafford.
