Chelsea defender David Luiz to undergo surgery

Chelsea defender David Luiz is to undergo surgery after suffering a broken nose while playing for Brazil.

Luiz was injured when he collided with team-mate Thiago Silva during Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Mexico in the Confederations Cup.

He struggled to stem the flow of blood after the collision and he has since confirmed that he suffered a broken nose which will require surgery.

However, the 26-year-old will wait until after the tournament before having the operation.

“Yes, my nose is broken, but that’s part of the game,” Luiz said. “Now I’ll have to wait until the end of the competition and undergo surgery to fix it.”
