David Moyes & Jose Mourinho: front-runners to replace Sir Alex Ferguson

David Moyes and Jose Mourinho are the front-runners to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of Manchester United.

The legendary Scot has announced his retirement and will join the board at Old Trafford.

Everton man Moyes is fractionally favourite to be the successor for the man who has been United manager for 27 years, winning 13 Premier League titles, two European Cups and five FA Cups.

Jose Mourinho, who is likely to leave Real Madrid this summer, is also a strong candidate for the job, but has been strongly linked with a return to Chelsea.

Moyes' Everton contract runs out in the summer and no agreement has been reached over a new deal.

The 50-year-old has previously said that he wanted to wait until the end of this campaign before deciding whether to extend his time at Goodison Park into a 12th year.

Mourinho's Chelsea return has hit a snag with owner Roman Abramovich refusing to pay the buyout clause in the Real Madrid manager's contract, as well as compensation for Mourinho's backroom staff.
