Chelsea win UEFA Europa League

Chelsea walked away with the UEFA Europa League - just 12 months after winning the UEFA Champions League - thanks to a 2-1 win against Benfica at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Fernando Torres broke the deadlock on the hour after racing past Luisao before calmly rounding Artur Moraes and slotting the ball into an empty net for his 21st goal of the season and his sixth goal in the competition. However, the Portuguese giants restored parity after Cesar Azpilicueta handled the ball in the box which allowed Oscar Cardozo to blast home for his seventh goal in the competition.

Then, with extra-time looming fast, Juan Mata's inswinging corner was headed back across goal into the far corner by defender Branislav Ivanovic for the winner.

It means the Blues have become just the fourth team in the history of European cup competition to win all three club competitions - the others being Juventus, Ajax and Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Portuguese giants Benfica have now been runners-up in seven major continental finals since they won back-to-back European Cup's in the 1960's.
