FEC approves heart surgery at University of Nigeria Nsukka Teaching Hospital (UNTH)

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the reintroduction of open heart surgery in the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) teaching hospital Enugu.

The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who disclosed this to state house correspondents after the council meeting, said Nigerians no longer have to go to India and other parts of world in search of surgery. 


He said the heart surgery in Enugu will cost only N500,000.

The reopening of the heart surgery is following recent initiatives by the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu as well support from Nigerians in diaspora.

The open heart surgery unit at the UNN was suspended ten years ago, following its movement from an old site within the Enugu metropolis to its permanent site at Ituku-Ozala.
