Bomb blasts hit Boston marathon; ...2 dead, over 100 injured

Two bombs have exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon killing two and injuring as least 100.

Authorities say those injured were initially treated in medical tents designed to assist exhausted athletes.

The event was ongoing as the explosions occurred.

Α fire at the JFK library in the city is said not to be connected to the explosions.

A US intelligence officer says that two other devices have been found and are being dealt with by bomb disposal units.

One reporter said that “runners coming in saw unspeakable horror.”

President Obama has been in contact with authorities to offer federal assistance

Boston air space around the area of the explosions has been closed off.

Police say the bombs were similar to improvised explosive devises used in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Further down the east coast security has been stepped up around New York landmarks and hotels and counter-terrorism vehicles have been deployed around the city.
