"Wayne Rooney will remain at Manchester United" - Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson has denied reports he plans to sell Wayne Rooney and has vowed to keep him at Old Trafford next season.
Rooney’s future at Manchester United has dominated the sports pages since his surprise omission from the starting line-up for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
Much of the speculation has suggested that United were willing to listen to reduced offers for the 27-year-old, but Ferguson has told reporters that the England star will still be at Old Trafford next season.
“The issue you’re all going on about is rubbish. There’s absolutely no issue between Wayne Rooney and I,” Ferguson told reporters at his weekly press conference.
“The suggestion we don’t talk on the training ground is nonsense. The decision to not play him was purely tactical and he understood that. Wayne will be here next year. You have my word on that.”
Speaking to the first time since Tuesday’s loss, Ferguson confirmed that Rooney, who was introduced in the second half following Nani’s controversial dismissal, would be involved in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Chelsea.
“Rooney will be involved on Sunday,” Ferguson declared.
